Court records in Charleston County, South Carolina are divided among Circuit Court, Family Court, Probate Court, Magistrate Court, Municipal Court, the Clerk of Court, the Register of Deeds, the Sheriff's Office, and state-level systems. This private reference site organizes those official sources so visitors can identify the right court, clerk, portal, or public-records process before requesting a record.

Why We Built This Site

Charleston County uses South Carolina court terms that are easy to mix up. Circuit Court includes Court of Common Pleas for civil cases and Court of General Sessions for criminal prosecutions. Family Court handles divorce and many domestic matters. Probate Court handles estates, wills, marriage licenses, guardianships, conservatorships, and commitments. Magistrate and Municipal Courts handle many traffic, summary criminal, warrant, bond, and small-claims matters.

The goal is to make those record routes easier to separate. A person looking for a certified divorce decree should not start with the Sheriff's Office. A person checking an active warrant should not treat a public case docket as confirmation. A person looking for a land instrument should know that the Register of Deeds is a separate office from the Clerk of Court.

Certified copies and official record confirmations must come from the court, clerk, sheriff, probate office, or government agency that maintains the record.
